Choking Hazards The American Academy of Pediatrics has come up with the following list of the biggest choking hazards and ways to make them safer for your child. Hot Dogs are one of the most common foods that children choke on. To minimize risk, cut them lengthwise and then chop them up into very small, irregular shapes. Apples, along with other fruits and vegetables should be chopped into very small, manageable pieces or cooked until mushy throughout. Grapes and grape tomatoes should always be cut half or quartered before you give them to your young children. If grapes have seeds make sure the seeds are removed. Nuts, the size and shape of nuts make them very dangerous for young children to consume. Peanut butter can be difficult for a child to swallow at once. The safest way to eat it is to spread a thin layer on a cracker. Marshmallows can easily get lodged in a child’s throat. Popcorn is a very easy food to choke on because of the size and shape. It is best to avoid giving marshmallows and popcorn to small children. Long pasta and noodles should be chopped into very small, manageable pieces. With safety in mind, we will be enforcing the list of choking hazards. Feel free to send in foods cut appropriately, and please refrain from foods that may cause choking. For the safety of our children, we will take notice of choking hazards sent into school for snack or lunch. We will notify you if we feel an unsafe food was provided.

Happy New Year 2019

Wishing you beautiful moments, treasured memories, and all the blessings a heart can know.

Heartfelt Thoughts

Welcome families and friends to a month of exploring and growing. We have lots of activities that will foster the meaning behind the season. It has been an enlightening year filled with an evolving philosophy of family support and a strong focus on a healthy mind and body. Watch throughout our 12 days of Christmas events as the children show their teamwork with their FSP family and express their appreciation for the special friendships they’ve build here.

Handwashing often- Keep distance from ill people Cut down on refined sugar Oscillococcinum- a homeopathic remedy has been shown to decrease the severity and length of the symptoms (available at CVS and most grocery stores) Flu care Tips: Drink plenty of water, call your doctor within the first 24 hours of symptoms and ask about anti-viral medication.

Here at FSP we are disinfecting rooms diligently to support a healthy environment.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Our Preschool classrooms are learning a lot about themselves and others while researching emotions, diversity and friendships. They are also enjoying the autumn activities and songs. Our toddler classroom has been enjoying the gathering together with friends to learn new songs, dance and stories. They are also enjoying exploring around the room

Fire Safety

Just a little bit of planning can make a big difference for your family. During fire safety week we teach the “3P’s” of fire safety..

*Prepare- reduce the risk of fires in your home by eliminating hazards. * Practice - practice home fire evacuation plan and general fire safety * Prevent the unthinkable

Gentle Reminders

*Please be sure your child has at least one complete set of season appropriate clothes in their cubby in the event of an accident or if your child’s clothes get dirty throughout the day’s activities. This ensures extra clothing is always available for their use. *Please label all belongings with your child’s first and last name. *Please pack a sealed milk box, juice box, juice pouch or sealed water bottle with your child’s lunch. Please no sippy cups, filled thermos or filled hydration bottles. *If foods need to be heated, please pack them separately from other non-heatable foods.

Notice how the trees do not cling to their leaves. Fall is about releasing the old to make way for the new.
