************************************************************************************************** Heartfelt Thoughts As we move into February there are mixed feelings about the lack of snow here in Tiverton. The children are excited to build snowmen and snow castles and the adults are grateful for safe travels. We will extend winterfest into February to accommodate all those children who love the chance to wear their jammies at the first sign of a snow day. Our curriculum explores around snow, ice, winter clothing and winter sports. Snow or no snow there’s a lot of winter fun here at Future Scholars Preschool.

Super Bowl Party: Friday, February 1st We will be cheering on our favorite team at our annual Super Bowl party. The children will work together to design team emblems and football crafts. Throwing and catching games will add to a day of fun. The children will enjoy a fun Super bowl party snack.

Chinese Lantern Festival : Thursday, February 7th Our Chinese Lantern Festival aka, Yuan-Xiao will be Thursday, February 7th. Our children love celebrating and learning about the Chinese Lunar year. They especially look forward to creating bright colorful lanterns to showoff and parade through the school for everyone to admire.

Valentine’s Day Dance: Thursday, February 14th - 10:00am - 11:30 am Love is in the air! We are gearing up for a day with friends, music, dance and Valentine exchange. We celebrate friendships, love and express our feelings while we dance the day away. Please feel free to check with your child’s teacher for the number of children in your child’s classroom if you are interested in sending out Valentines Valentines without names work the best so no one is unintentionally left out. If the party is not on your child’s scheduled day, please check with Ms. Nancy to see if there is availability to sign up for the hours of the party. *If interested there is a $20 party fee for signing up. Remember to wear your special party clothes. It is a day for making lots of memories and taking pictures!

Mystery Readers This month we would like to invite “Mystery Readers” to each classroom. Sign up and bring in a family book or story that holds special meaning to you or your child. The children will be told about the “Mystery Reader” who will be visiting but the “Mystery Reader” will be kept secret! You or an approved family member are welcome to visit and share your story. See sign up at the front desk or email us if interested. This event brought surprise and smiles to many children last year. Please join us in expanding literacy and family!

Treasure Times Sign up to enjoy some special one or one time with your favorite teacher while engaging in a fun activity of your choice. Treasure Time is a half hour, once a week, for a month. Your child may pick the teacher he/she would like to spend their time with. Some of our many activities include: an exciting science experiment, art explorations, personal time to connect with a favorite teacher; maybe playing a game or enjoying a special story, or time set aside for practicing handwriting skills, letter recognition, shapes and numbers to help prepare for kindergarten.

School Snow Policy Future Scholars Preschool follows the Tiverton Public Schools schedule for snow conditions. In the event, conditions have been labeled a state of emergency, the center will close for the safety of the children, their families and our staff. In keeping with this policy, Future Scholars may opt to delay the opening of the center or close earlier in the afternoon, if we feel that conditions are not safe. All school closings, delays and updates due to extreme weather conditions will be broadcast on local RI channels 6, 10 and 12.

Tax Receipts Year end tax receipts are available by request only. If you would like one, simply call the office, send an email or drop a note in the payment drop box and we will get one ready for you as soon as possible. Receipts may be picked up at the front desk or email. Please specify preference at time of request.

Gentle Reminders *Cold weather and snow are here! Please bring in and label warm clothes for your child’s cubby. *In order for the children to go out in cold weather appropriate winter gear is needed: ie: coats, hats, gloves and/or mittens. *While it is tempting to leave your car running during drop off and pick up, please refrain from doing so, for the health and safety of all children. Also, children may not be left unattended in your car while picking up or dropping off.

Coming in March Mickey’s 90th Birthday Celebration. Watch for details.
